What is Happening Now in Hudson

Today, Saturday June 12, 2010 the Pasco County OEM, Port Richey Mayor Richard Rober, chief of police and a group of 50+ citizens meet at City Hall to discuss and/or prepare for the oil encroaching on our beautiful West Pasco shorelines.

What is needed now is "EYES ON THE GULF" we need everyone to keep an eye out for any signs of oil. Eventually they believe we will get some tar balls, tar pies and some sheen or slick on the surface. Our plan is to get to it before it gets along our coastline. For that, we needd boaters to keep a watchful eye.

If you see any of these or any other material - write down the latitude and longitude, date, time and call the Coast Guard on VHF Channel 16. If you do not have a VHF radio and are in range call the info into any land line you can and ask them to call Pasco Office of Emergency Service (727) 847-8137 with the information.

Hudson Sports Complex

After a lot of work and contacting sports leagues all over the nation, the county shot down the possibility of Hudson having a multi use sports complex. A 4 star restaurant and tourists from all over the country bringing cash to our area. We have not given up but can use all the help we can get to presure the county into allowing a park in Hudson. Write your commissioner signs petitions. You can get the lastest info at http://www.HudsonSportsComplex.org

Hudson History

Hudson, Florida, is located at: 28 21' 40"N, 82 41' 14"

In 1878 Isaac Hudson moved his family to coastal Pasco County and opened a post office at a place he called Hudson's Landing. The area grew when they began cutting lumber and shipping it to the Tampa area. Hudson stagnated when the Fivay company went out of business and people moved or turned to the sea. Shrimping and fishing employed most of the people during the 1930's to the 50's, when some realator paid the Army Corp of engineers to dig 25 miles of canals. In the 1980's larger homes where beginning to be built and the waterfront community began to grow once again.

Hudson is the last easily accesible land north of New Port Richey Florida while boating. The mile long channel leading in from the Gulf allows you to get food, fuel, lodging and has a ramp with public docks for an overnight visit or just get away from a storm.

Hudson Beach, though a bit rocky has a sandy beach on the northern end with a towering Tiki style building for a better view of the Gulf and surroundings.

A public launch

with over night docking is free and may protect your vessel from the quick moving storms in the Gulf of Mexico.
A chart of the channel is right next to the ramp to help guide you out to sea.
